Final Major Project
Pitch idea:
I want to weave a campaign to encourage the youth of the country to participate in sports. This will encourage young people to partake in activities which are good for their physical health and hopefully a positive outlook on life and their futures. As a backdrop and something to inspire, something close to home will be used – the London Olympic games of 2012.
I will research into the various ad campaigns that have a sporting element to it, from brands to Nike to Reebok, to sports stars endorsing products such Gillete and deodorants. How do these campaigns use sports to inspire and excite?
I intend to use a variety of mediums to inspire and motivate youngsters to take part in sport, short video adverts which could be screened on commercial breaks during primetime children’s TV programmes, posters to be sent to schools and libraries, websites with promotional material and activities to join up to their local areas.
More detail:
The 4 slogans for the campaign:
“Dream 2012 and beyond”
“Study hard. Play hard”
“Champions keep on playing till they get it right” Bille Jean-King
“Become yourself”
Based on each of the 4 positive slogans, choose 3 video advertisements to create.
The message and ideas to be conveyed in the 4 videos adverts:
1. “Dream 2012 and beyond” (30 seconds)
A part animated and live action sequence depicting a youth running late into school, as the school bell rings 9am. Teacher tells him off for being late. You see him doing the same run the next day but this time he makes it in class before the bell. Next you see him running in 100m track but remembering the school bell. “On your marks” and he runs on a 100m track and as soon as he finished the line, a school bell goes off. Instead of the same teacher saying “you’re late detention”, he says “you’ve beat the school record” and the school bell goes off. And then you see him at school desk, and you see him thinking of Usain Bolts 100WR. When Usain Bolt finishes the race, the school bell goes off. End of advert.
2. “Study hard. Play hard” (10 seconds or more)
Gymnastics. You see a kid jumping and leaping over bins and pillars. She then gets told off by her mum. And told to go and do her homework. You see the kid working late into the night doing her homework. Doing headstands on her bed. So you see her, playing hard and studying hard. Show picture of famous Gymnast Nadia Comăneci. Then show slogan.
3. “Champions keep on playing till they get it right” Bille Jean-King (30 seconds)
Show that you should never give up and bounce back stronger from any failures in life. Demonstrate this via a kid playing practising taking free kicks. You see the kid taking free kicks again and again, each time missing the goal or getting saved by the keeper, hitting the wall. But with each kick getting more determined to score next time. Filmed in different places to give idea of the passage of time and repeated efforts. At the end of the advert, the kid finally scores a wonderful free kick and all his team mates embrace in celebration. Then you see a quick montage of professional free kicks by David Beckem. Display the slogan at the end of the advert.
4. “Become yourself” (10 seconds or more)
Cycling. You see a kid learning how to ride a cycle and gain confidence to become better at it. Show a picture of Chris Hoy. Then the slogan.
Timeline:
1. Research video sports ads, previous Olympians and create rushes/storyboards for the video adverts
2. Scout for actors and rehearse based on rushes/storyboards
3. Continue scouting for actors and rehearse based on rushes/storyboards
4. Continue with rushes/storyboards and get familiar with the video equipment and do test shots based on rushes/storyboards.
5. Shoot the first advertisement
6. Edit the first advertisement, sound and video.
7. Shoot the second advertisement
8. Edit the second advertisement, sound and video.
9. Shoot the third advertisement
10. Edit the third advertisement, sound and video.
11. Review all work from previous weeks and make sure everything is up to date and finished so far and synch up the sounds for the video. Re-record any additional sound effects needed for video.
12. Finalise campaign videos
What equipment I will be using for the video shoots and editing:
For the editing of the DV footage I will use Premier Pro for Windows.
For filming I will use a Sony handheld camcorder with a tripod.
I will also be additionally be recording sound effects using a microphone.
SLR/digial camera for taking stills during the project.
For parts of the animation, I will use Adobe products such as Photoshop, Illustrator.

Evaluation for The Notion Beauty and Responsible Design and Personal Project
Evaluation Personal Project
Doing this project was getting to my head because I had to redo my brief so many times and I didn’t understand why the teachers didn’t understand my brief. I hated the fact each week we had to alternate teachers about the work. One week a teacher would like the work and then the other would hate the work. What the fuck, it is doing my head in. fuck sakes, why can’t we have one teacher to explain one thing. Then in the other hand having two teachers explain about different stuff. I understand it. It great to get feedback from teachers, but they should stop fucking about and asking us to show the same work again and again. It gets fucking annoying to do work. Both of them are great teachers but we should be having alternating teaching in a different way. It fucking around my head what I’m meant to be expecting from teachers. Anyway, doing project my initial idea was jewel case for the Album cover for the Group JLS. Then from their I got confused then my teachers made it more confusing. So I agreed to redo the brief one more time, thinking I had only 4 weeks to the project. But in fact I had 7 weeks been great. That gives me plenty of time to do the work. I was thinking why the teachers making it sound like it will take a long time to design a cover. The only hard bit would be the temple plate or net of album cover for jewel case. Now, I knew why they were confused because I wasn’t precise about the brief because it sounded like I wanted make one of the old album cover from vinyl.
Once I was getting somewhere, I changed my brief again which was 4 weeks in project which, I was pissed off so I did what I did best and made a poster. I didn’t really care how the poster looks like. I didn’t even want to make a poster. I was bored making posters, so I though to myself I should make something that is challenging and test my abilities were I didn’t use any computers programmes just magazines, drawings and a colours photocopy machines. I found it very difficulty to do and time consuming. But there was an up side to this work were I realized what if I had no computers and left with pen and paper. Now that was quite scary to know that I was limit but I managed it well and I felt good at the same time.
When I placed the work on the train. My heart was pumping hard because there were people watching me placing some kind of poster but they didn’t know what it was. Some people though it was protest for something. But getting closer glace to the work they were impressed what they saw. But the adrenalin rush was kicking in. Afterwards, I was relaxed and I put the work like it was a normal thing.
Overall this was the hardest project that I did and I know my final outcome wasn’t great but my sketchbook is great and it show all the back up work that I did. Hopeful I’ll lead this type of style of I get into trouble in any work again. Actually, I rather get everything done and right the first time.
Evaluation The Notion Beauty and Responsible Design
At first doing this project sounded difficult because I didn’t know what to do without using firmly programmes. This was challenge pushing my boundaries where I have done before. Also, it made me think there more stuff out there and should be testing it out or I’ll be losing my chance of doing it. This project made me think I haven’t done a lot animation and work on website. I think this was fear factor which, I had to get over. I was moaning and explaining at the first week and I argued at my teacher, wasn’t great start to the year. But, I was glad that I got into argument because I didn’t understand anything at all. The first mistake I did was having argument with my teacher. A thing that I can’t forget. During the week and days went past by I suck up my pride and be a man about it and apologize to my teacher. Then I slowly got into the grove of working and got the storyboard and I totally forgot the blog. This isn’t me slacking, I am always one step ahead. I must admitted, I was falling behind with work but I caught up with work. The word ‘Beauty’ was used too many times to thing about and still think beauty still need to be found because it not clear. There are examples about beauty but that how different cultures face beauty. Doing this project made me think I don’t need to use advance things just make things look good or know a well-known programme. I realized if the idea is simple it will work well. The next project I do I’ll make the idea simple and easy to understand. Simple and easy.
